Task 8 - Review

My final product at the end of this project, in my eyes, is really good. Yes, I know it doesn't look amazing and the animation isn't perfectly smooth. But. Taking my abilities into account. I think I did rather well. I started this project with little to no skill in the 3D animation software and a limited amount of experience and skill with the 3D modeling software, I managed to learn quick enough to not only complete the project; but, to a level I'm happy with and proud of. I managed my time perfectly on this assignment. I created a clear schedule and managed to follow it week by week which assured that I'd complete the project. The racetrack I put together was rushed and that defiantly shows up in the video. Once I had finished with the car there was very little time left so I had to generate something quickly. Now that I have finished the project, I feel that I have obtained a lot more skills and definitely a lot more experience working with both the 3D modeling software and the 3D animation software.

When compared to my original intentions and hopes for the project, unfortunately, the finished animation came no where near what I had envisioned it too. I had originally planned for the animation to be a little longer than it is now and for it to be a much better quality. For one, the camera should have been closer to the car while it drifted. The reason it was so far away is because I messed up the sizing of the car and the racetrack. So, I could not zoom in any further. I wanted to make the animation much smoother, sort out the bugs that occurred during the animation but I ran out of time so, doing the best I could I flattened out most of the big issues and rendered it out. I had planned to have the camera rotate around the car while it was racing/drifting but, I ran out of time while trying to figure out how to do this. I was also going to have the steering wheel and gearshifter animated but due to the sheer time constraint of this project I could not reach this goal.

The brief set was to research into what we had decided to animate and then generate ideas from that and finally bring the ideas to life in Layout. I feel as though I understood this brief extremely well and managed to meet it's standards and it's expectations.

Task 7 - Post-Production

Task 6 - Production

Task 5 - Ethical/H&S Sign-off

Task 4 - Storyboard

I created a storyboard based off of how I want the animation sequence to go. I only made it simple and brief because I have a clear outline in mind for how it's going to play out. I'm going to have the car start off on a straight piece of road and it will gradually accelerate until it reaches the first corner. Once on top of the corner it will get sideways and begin to drift. It will then loose some momentum coming out of the drift and then continue down another straight piece of road. This will continue until the car passes where it first started then the car will purposely spin out; when it reaches a complete stop the camera will rotate around the front of the car and then stop one it has basically flipped position so it ends up being parallel to where it was before.

Task 3 - Ideas Generation

I want to create an animation of cars (or car) drifting. Since cars are my hobby and passion I think this will help me develop a greater interest in wanting to make and improve my animation.

Making an animation of two cars drag racing or just racing each other is something that I want to do. However, it would create a high work load for the amount of time I actually have. Fully animating two moving cars could end up taking far too long so I will most likely just have one car drifting like seen in parts of the first video.

Task 2 - Research

There are 3D animated parts within the clip. The main, and only, example from this clip in particular is the cars. Ryosuke's FC3S RX-7 and Takumi's AE86 Trueno are both 3D models that have been 3D animated. They battle for the lead with drifting, powerslides and just general racing.

The main 3D animation present here, is the emphasis on the characters; which are clearly animated 3D models. They do acrobatics and fighting, the clear emphasis is on movement.
